Volun-TEU’s take on a Real Meal with The Big Umbrella Foundation

Kicking off with a collaboration with the Big Umbrella Foundation, we have officially launched the CSR Program: The Volun-TEU’s.

Created by our Melbourne Office, this program has been implemented to encourage staff to get away from their desks and give back to the community at a local level. Whether it be for social or environmental initiatives, this program gives our staff members an opportunity to demonstrate their socially responsible behaviour and highlight their positive impact as people, employees and as a business because ultimately - it’s good to be good.

With approximately 15 staff launching our first event last Wednesday – ANL, CMA CGM and APL saw great success taking part in the ‘Real Meal’ program, held by the Big Umbrella Foundation. Solely run by volunteers, The Big Umbrella Foundation strives to eradicate poverty and exploitation on a local and international level. Held in two key locations in Melbourne’s CBD, our team members alongside volunteers of the program delivered dinner to those in need, which not only opened an opportunity to provide hot meals, but to create friendships, build trust and give something all of us have – our time.

CMA CGM Cargo Management Officer Sandeep Pant said “It was a stunning night and a real eye opener for me to see such phenomenal charity work carried out. So many people got involved to provide a meal for homeless around the city and I was amazed when I discovered these activities had taken place for so many years, it really showed their dedication, passion and positive attitude.

In a similar fashion, ANL’s Marketing Assistant Luc Leyat also found this experience highly rewarding, saying “I really enjoyed giving my time as a volunteer and sharing a smile with others. Most of the people we met were very warm and kind, despite all the difficulties they face. They were smiling and laughing even though they didn’t know where they were going to sleep that night or the next week. And so I guess they brought us more smile than we did them. All the volunteers are very kind, which made a super team! I will definitely be taking part again.”

In the later months of this year, other volun-TEU events will include another collaboration with the Big Umbrella Foundation as well as other organisations. Having attained such huge interest and success so far, we hope that the launch of this program will not only create positive change, but make a significant impact on our local community members - #AllHandsOnDeck
